May blog entries

Two more little bunnies are now completed!

That brings the total bunny count to 4 completed, which is the number I need for the little book of bunnies. I'm not sure yet how I will construct the book. I haven't tried a fiber book before. But I'm sure I can figure out something.
I haven't been sleeping well, so it's messing me up these past few days, but I'm trying hard to come up with some new things to work on. I want to get back into stumpwork figures, hopefully this next week I will have a few things worked out to try making. In the meantime there are sheep in my future, more pictures soon! :)

The first little sheep project is done. This isn't too large, just 2.5 inches high. The next sheep project will be a bit more involved.
If anyone is interested in joining an online embroidery exhibition, you should join the new ning group for hand embroidery. The founder, Sarah Whittle is doing a lot of work to make it happen including putting together a website, but you need to be a member of the group. The theme is a broad one: living organisms. All participants can put in 2 projects. It's great she is doing this. I'm all for promoting stitching!

I have stitched up another biscornu design:

Am I ever going to turn my biscornus into bisconrnus? maybe! I am collecting ideas in my head for what else one could do with these types of projects.
Here is a little sneak peak of my latest project:

This will probably take 2 more days to complete.
Just another reminder to go to the hand embroidery group and sign up for the group and for the embroidery exhibition in August. You only have until May 31st to sign up, so go do it! It's a great opportunity for a little stitchy- and self-promotion. You are allowed to enter pieces you intend to sell too.

Well, that turned into a little blog break. I have been stitching though, although not as much as I wanted. I made a biscornu from start to finish with both a top and a bottom design!

and stitched together:

I like how it turned out, and I shall be making another.
Also this week I finished another sheep project:

This was pretty fun, and not at all too complicated.
That's all for now, but I will return soon. I have bought 1 oop book and another is on the way, so I will mention them when both are here.

castle_0.jpg
It took me a couple days to really get into this one as I had to think a lot about how to do the different elements. I decided to make the castle as slips in three pieces with long and short stitches. The windows are just painted black. The roofs are needle lace. I have done the tree leaves with pendant couching. You don't see that too often, but it's great for creating a sort of bushy-type textures. I am moving on to the figure now. There will be stitching over the grass too. I haven't yet decided how I will do that though.

I finished the castle stumpwork project yesterday:

This was a lot of fun to do. I painted the fabric with watercolors. I just used the inexpensive kind, like you would give a child, and I think I like this result better than all the other types of background paints I've tried. I tested out a few different things with this figure. I took the time to wrap wire for the hands and arms. They add a bit of realism, but they still look a little like bender's hands, so next time I will try to improve the shape. I also painted the fabric for the faces and legs, so the figure looks less ghostish. It worked well. Speaking of the head, it turned out quite a bit smaller than I intended. I thought it was still ok though, so I just went with it. I did the figure's clothes entirely with needlelace, which I haven't done for awhile. My technique improved as I went along, but there is much improving needed!
So what's next? I am going to throw in a couple quick projects now, but on my mind are my projects for the online embroidery exhibition that Sarah Whittle is doing for the Hand Embroidery group. Today is the last day for signing up, so go over there and register! It's at no cost to the stitcher. She already has a site for it up and running. She is really putting in every effort to make it a success. so it's a great opportunity for a little easy promotion. I have a few ideas for what I would like to put together, I just need to sit and work out the designs.
